Johanna Triple

Tripel Johanna

The story behind Johanna

Johanna Triple is a fruity, blond beer developed in Ghent. Johanna is a beer in the Belgian triple style with refermentation in the bottle, 8.5% alcohol volume. The flavour profile has hints of citrus and orange

Our first beer, Johanna, was originally developed for my wedding in 2019 with my wonderful wife. It's a beer with a fruity touch thanks to a fermentation at high temperature. The beer has an alcohol level of 8.5% and a nice, creamy foam head. Johanna is made with 3 distinct types of barley malt and German aroma hops. It has a subtle bitter flavour and an aftertaste that continues to linger for a while. Johanna is the first beer our brewery launched on the market.

Taste of Johanna Triple

The taste of this beer is largely due to the use of an American yeast strain. Johanna is made with traditional beer ingredients: malt, hops, water and yeast. A small amount of sugars was added to the wort.

We also have a special, limited batch of Johanna available with aging on a whiskey barrel. Of this beer a total of 250 75cl bottles are available. This beer has a clear whiskey-flavour from the lagering and a light wood touch in the nose. The extra aging creates a further evolution of Johanna's taste profile and adds a full, complex aroma. This beer can be ordered until we run out of stock through our webshop and a limited selection of (online) drink stores.

About the brewery

BlommeCaes Brewery was founded in 2017 as a side project. Back then, I started experimenting with a brew package that I bought online. It did not take long before I started with my own recipes. To improve my theoretical knowledige, I followed a brewing course at CVO Brussels in 2018. With the professional help from this course, I'm now creating and improving recipes on a monthly base.

With Blommecaes Brewery, I want to stick to the rich tradition of the Belgian beer culture. For the majority of my recipes, I start with a typical historical Belgian style such as Saison, Triple, Sour beers, etc... At the same time, I try to add a modern touch, since the world around us has evolved as well. To do so, I use modern brewing techniques or I combine styles to achieve a surprising result. You should not expect an American IPA from our brewery, but we are definitely open to combine a British style with a sour Belgian beer!

Johanna is the first recipe that left our home brewery and is for sale in the area around Ghent. We use webshopCraywinckelhof Brewery to brew the recipe on a larger scale. In December 2020 we extended the assortment with Brigitta, a sour fruit beer and a Limited Edition Johanna - with aging on whiskey barrels. Our beers are for sale in the

At the moment, we experiment with a small home brew installation of 30 liter. Our signature brews are bottled externally. In the medium term we hope to start our own 150 liter brewery to allow more recipe experimentation.
